Cheap & easy Shepherd’s Pie like dish

June 24th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Food
  • Ground beef (1lb)
  • Chopped onions (1/4 cup)
  • Salt & pepper (teaspoon of each)
  • Minced garlic (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Cook together & drain.

Put everything into a baking dish
Add a can of tomato soup, stir it in.
Add a can of green beans, stir them in too.
Prepare potato buds (2 1/2 cups) as the directions on the box say.
Smear spuds on top of the dish.
Layer cheese on top of everything.
Then bake it at 350f for 40 minutes.

The end result? It looks like a sloppy mess, but it’s delicious. You’ll have plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day.

Done!

Windows 7 has been installed. The default theme is pretty drab. It’s mostly grey, and I got the desktop pattern with the grey/blue fish with the red tail. I have no idea what kind of fish it is. The Windows Taskbar has the start menu, an icon for Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Windows Media Player, and that’s it. The lower right systray has the clock with the date. I appreciate that little feature because sometimes I like to know what the date is without having to mouse over the time or click on it. To the right of the clock is a little grey rectangle. It seems that’s the “Show Desktop” button now. Oddly placed, as in previous versions of Windows it was in the Quick Launch.

You’ll also notice that there are a few extra icons. I did install iTunes with QuickTime and Safari. Also is the icon for “Microsoft Security Essentials” which I’ll cover at a later time.

Almost done…

So far, I have been rather impressed with the installation process. The way it’s laid out almost reminds me of the Red Hat Linux installation screens. There’s a pretty simple interface for dealing with disks, and that’s about it so far. Should be done in a few minutes.

Windows 7, here I come!

June 24th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in Technology

In about 10 minutes, I’m going to install the Release Candidate for Windows 7. I found an old Dell Dimension 2400 on Craigslist.

* Celeron N 2.4ghz
* 1.0gb RAM
* 40gb IDE HD
* CD-RW/DVD-ROM
* nVidia GeForce 6200 (PCI, 256mb RAM)

It’s by no means a speed demon, but it exceeds the minimum system requirements listed by Microsoft. My goal is to install Windows 7 and use it as an “Average User” would.
