Stop bugging me, amazon.com.

June 26th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

I occasionally purchase stuff from amazon.com. Nothing too special about it. I find stuff, I click “Add to Cart,” I click “Check Out,” and within a few days, whatever stuff I ordered and paid for arrives. That’s exactly how it should work. It generally works just fine. But I have to admit that it’s rather annoying to keep getting these annoying “Please leave feedback” emails from them. I can’t just check a tick box for “Everything was just fine.” It keeps bugging me to leave more detailed feedback. I don’t really feel like I should have to leave any feedback at all for what was just an ordinary transaction. Am I supposed to be exceptionally pleased that the stuff that I paid for actually arrived in a timely manner? Not really, because generally that’s what I expect should happen. If there was something extraordinary about the transaction, sure, I’d leave feedback. But when it’s a pretty ordinary old transaction, I don’t see anything to leave feedback about. I can’t seem to find an option at amazon.com to not bug me with emails about feedback either.

Am I missing something? What do y’all think?

Sirius XM rates going up… again.

June 26th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in Technology

As a long time Sirius XM subscriber, I was very unhappy to read that rates are going up again. This time they’re masking the rate increase as a “US Music Royalty Fee.” You can read the news from Sirius XM here.

“Effective July 29, 2009, a U.S. Music Royalty Fee has been added to subscriber invoices. Details about the specific costs being passed through to subscribers in this U.S. Music Royalty Fee are provided below.”

Basically, they’re saying it’s because of copyright fees. This is hot on the heels of the March 11th rate increase. Believe me, I am kicking myself for not getting the Lifetime Subscriptions when I had the chance. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my Sirius radio units (one at home, one in each car) but I am very unhappy with the rate increases.

My next concern is that these ever increasing copyright/royalty fees will smoosh things like Pandora Internet Radio out of existence.

Time stands still!

Well, it does if your Windows 7 screensaver is going. The clock stops updating. That’s actually rather annoying.

Nambu – a free Twitter client for Mac OS X.

June 26th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in Technology

Nambu! Nambu is a free Twitter client for Mac OS X. It’s still in beta, so certain features might not work yet or you might encounter a bug here n’ there. I’ve been using it since it was first announced and it’s proven itself to be pretty reliable. The current version is Version 1.2.1 (3460) as of this writing. If you’re a Twitter user, it’s worth giving a try. The Nambu developers seem to be very responsive and open to user suggestions as well, which is also a nice thing to see.

Did I mention that it’s free? Free is good.
