It’s supposed to be over 100 degrees in North Texas this, with a heat index of nearly 109. It’s actually pretty easy to overheat yourself when working out doors. Here’s a few tips:
- Drink plenty of water. This is the most important one.
- Don’t drink caffeinated beverages or alcohol. A nice cold soda or beer seems refreshing, but not while you’re actively outside working. Water or an electrolyte drink like Gatorade is much better for you. If you are drinking Gatorade, dilute it slightly with some water.
- Limit your outdoor activities!
- Wear loose fitting, light colored clothing.
Symptoms can include heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, low grade fever, headache, and dark colored urine. Heat Exhaustion can quickly turn into the more serious heatstroke, so it’s important to prevent that from happening.
These and other tips can be found at the Mayo Clinic website.
