Google changes attachment size to 25mb?
June 29th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in TechnologyThe Google Blog is reporting that they have increased the maximum attachment size for Gmail accounts.
This is great if you’re sending a file to another gmail user, but keep in mind that many (if not most) of the other email systems on the planet will reject attachments that are larger than 10 mb. If I recall correctly, 10 mb was the default size limit on Sendmail and Postfix mail systems.
Email wasn’t really designed to be winging large files around. 3-5mb I can see, but a 25 mb file? That sounds like a job better suited to something like Dropbox.

Firefox 3.5 to be released Tuesday (June 30th, 2009)
June 29th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in TechnologyPC Magazine is reporting that Firefox 3.5 is slated to be released this coming Tuesday, June 30th.
“Firefox 3.5 will include a private browsing mode that hides browser activity, a sped-up JavaScript engine known as TraceMonkey, new location services, and support for several emerging HTML 5 features.
HTML 5 support will allow the browser to natively play video encoded in the open source Ogg Theora format and Ogg Vorbis audio, which provides for manipulation and editing of video without the use of an external program.”
Just like the other Mozilla products, Firefox will be a free download. I recommend using Firefox or Safari on a Windows PC because of its better track record when it comes to security.

Personally, I’d rather just eat the stuff than make art out of it, but that’s just me.

13 year old tries a Walkman
June 29th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in Technology“The Magazine invited 13-year-old Scott Campbell to swap his iPod for a Walkman for a week.”
What amuses me is that cassette tapes are already “nostalgia.” It’s amazing at how quickly the audio cassette format turned into a relic. Even things like DAT have fallen by the wayside. I tried to rent a DAT recorder a few months ago and was unable to find one anywhere. Even finding the DAT media was extremely difficult. (I ended up doing the recording direct-to-disk with my MacBook and Audio Hijack Pro instead)
I haven’t seen a cassette tape in a while, and cannot even remember the last time that I saw one. Digital media has taken over. VHS is also dead. DVD video killed it off as well.
I wonder if the kid or his parents have ever seen an 8-Track.
