Zombie PCs may self destruct

July 11th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Technology

The recent MyDoom variant that attempted a denial of service attack on government websites may actually cause your computer to self destruct, according to reports at C|Net.

“Botnet expert Joe Stewart of SecureWorks told The Washington Post that he tested the self-destruct Trojan and found it capable of erasing the hard drive on an infected system, but that that function wasn’t being triggered. He speculated that either there is a bug in the code or that the feature is set to activate at a later date.”

This illustrates two important points: One, Keeping current and up to date anti virus software on your computer is important and two, it is very important to have current backups of your important data.

Public Service Announcement!

The Federal Bureau of Land Management in Nevada wants you to know something. The hot springs you may see in Nevada can be very dangerous. People and animals have been killed by jumping into hot springs. The water in some of the springs can reach temperatures of 180 degrees to over 200 degrees fahrenheit. It’s important to heed the warning signs that the BLM has placed around dangerous springs.

The BLM made a fairly amusing video about it as well which you can see here.

Be careful around those hot springs!

I have tons of amusing images. Unfortunately, I don’t know where a lot of them came from, but if they’re yours or you know where the original is, let me know.

Here’s a good one:
