Get rid of fire ants!

July 16th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

How to get rid of fire ants! They’re nasty little pests, and the stings are painful. Be careful when you see a mound in the yard! Try to treat them with a fire ant killer product as soon as you see them appear. Another article that I found about treating individual mounds gives high marks to Spectracide. Even though the article is several years old, it’s still interesting to read.

And for heaven’s sake, if you see an ant mound…DO NOT go and poke it with a stick. You’ll just annoy the fire ants, and it’s likely that you’ll get stung!

Learn CPR with the Wii

“The American Heart Association has pledged $50,000 to fund the work of University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) biomedical engineering undergraduate students who are working to develop a computer program that teaches CPR using hand-held remote controls from the Nintendo® Wii video game console.” – Article here.

I’ve taught simple CPR lessons before, and I think that this is a fabulous idea. Students are often unsure of how hard and fast they need to be doing chest compressions, and the Wii-mote might be just the tool to help them. CPR really isn’t that difficult to do but sometimes it can be hard to do properly.

Now is probably a great time to remind y’all that you can become CPR certified through either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Early CPR is part of the ‘chain of survival.’
