After rampant speculation and endless rumors, the Apple iPad was announced today and journalists are getting their first hands-on shots with it. The device will start shipping in 60 days, with a 3G capable one shipping 30 days after that.

When you think about it, the Amazon Kindle DX is $469 from Amazon.com, and the iPad starts off at $499 for a 16gb version. The iPad appears to do a whole lot more. It really does seem like a larger version of the iPod Touch, though, but that might be the appeal for many people. I love my iPhone but it’s a little tedious to do a lot of web browsing on, but I don’t need another MacBook. It’s the product that fits right in the middle. I’m interested in one because I could use something light to go in my backpack that has 3G capabilities. I’m interested in an ebook reader, and the iPad looks like it’ll be the right size. It’s also nice that the AT&T data plans are only $29.99/mo for unlimited data and there are no contracts required.
Cool:
* Size
* Screen
* Excellent portable media player & email device
Cons:
* Maybe a little bit expensive
* Duplicates some of the functions that my iPhone has.
It’s too bad that AT&T isn’t allowing users to tether the iPad to their iPhones via Bluetooth. After all, I’m already paying for the iPhone data plan, so why can’t I just use it for the iPad? Maybe this is something that will change in the future, but it’d be nice to have at launch.
What do y’all think about it? Interested in it so far?
