Remember what I said yesterday about financial analysts and rumors? This image illustrates it. Look at the jump in VZW stock after the “iPhone coming to Verizon” rumor was picked up and spread around. Plenty of people profited on that rumor, that’s for sure.

Verizon iPhone rumors again?
March 30th, 2010 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in Technology
Once again, the rumors of a Verizon iPhone coming out are hitting the blogs. This time it’s from the Wall Street Journal. But there are some things to keep in mind, especially the sources. This recent source is from another financial analyst. They like to say things to move stock, and Apple (AAPL) is hot right now. Stock in Verizon is up nearly 3% today alone and AT&T down 1% based on this very rumor.
At this point, it’s just pure speculation, just like before. It seems unlikely that Apple would make a CDMA iPhone for Verizon when the carrier is planning on moving away from it and rolling out LTE in 2011 anyway. That’s another thing – why would Apple roll out a device for a network that really doesn’t even exist yet? (Answer: they wouldn’t. That would be silly.)
Just like the rest of these stories, we will have to just wait and see what Apple does. We won’t know what that is until they announce it.
I think that a more likely partner would be T-Mobile, but that also remains to be seen. First, we need to enjoy the iPad.
Netflix on the Nintendo Wii – video review.
March 27th, 2010 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in TechnologyNetflix is finally available for streaming on the Nintendo Wii. My streaming disc arrived in the mail this morning, and I did a short video review.
The audio quality isn’t that great. Sorry about that. But, the video itself came out ok and you can see how easy it is to set up and get everything going.
Pros:
- Being able to browse by category is nice
- Being able to add stuff/remove stuff from the queue is nice
- Interface works well, and it’s pretty fast.
Cons:
- Video quality isn’t HD, but that’s a limitation of the Nintendo Wii. The Xbox 360 version looks better.
- If you lose the disc, no streaming for you.

Attack of the Fembots..errr..Femtocells!
March 25th, 2010 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in TechnologyThe long anticipated AT&T Femtocell is getting ready to be launched nationwide! We’ve talked about this product before but it was only available in certain test markets. “AT&T* today announced that AT&T 3G MicroCell plans to begin its national roll out beginning in mid April, with new markets activating in cities across the continental U.S. for the next several months. AT&T 3G MicroCell is an innovative solution that allows residential customers to route wireless phone calls and data connections (or sessions) across a home broadband connection. This solution is designed to benefit customers who live in homes that have coverage impediments that consistently interrupt wireless spectrum, such as dense wall and roof construction or unfavorable terrain. ”
