Ok, maybe not. “Cash For Clunkers” Gets another 2 billion dollars.

July 31st, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Etcetera

Reports are saying that the House has approved another $2,000,000,000 for the Cash for Clunkers program.

“The House has voted to rush an additional $2 billion into the popular but financially strapped “cash for clunkers” car purchase program.”
“The bill was approved on a vote of 316-109. House members acted within hours of learning from Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood that the program was running out of money.”

If you were going to use the program to buy a new car, it might be a good idea to do it sooner rather than later.

Beware of “Cash for Clunkers” scams.

July 26th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

Here’s just one story talking about the new Federal program called “Cash for Clunkers” and how there are already scam artists trying to con people into giving up money or personal information.

The program is actually called the “Car Allowance Rebate System” and the ONLY official website for it is http://www.cars.gov. Also be wary of car dealers, as usual. They want to make a sale, so make sure that you read the government website first and have all of the information that you need before going to a car lot.

Reading articles at Edmunds.com is also a good idea. They have an article everyone should read about 10 tips for buying a new car. You can find it here.

Keep your car cool!

July 2nd, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

It’s almost the Fourth of July, and many folks are heading out for a long weekend. A few things you can do to keep the car happy are:

* Get an oil change! If you have more than 90,000 miles on the vehicle, consider the High Mileage oil.

* Have the radiator flushed. This is something that people overlook, but it’s a good thing to do every 2-3 years.

* Check the tire pressure! Make sure that the tires are properly inflated. This will help with your fuel economy as well.

* Check all of the lights and make sure that they work. If you replace headlamps, go ahead and replace both of them. They usually come in pairs anyway.

* Keep up with the regularly scheduled maintenance stuff as listed in the vehicle’s manual. You don’t always have to have the dealer perform such services. Check around for a local mechanic.

Simple car maintenance can help keep your vehicle running smoothly and can keep your car safe for you and your family, and that can save you some cash in the long run.

Interested in a hybrid?

July 2nd, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

Hopefully hybridcars.com will have plenty of information for you. If your car meets certain criteria, you can get up to $4500 back from the Federal Government through the CARS program.

Unfortunately (maybe) you can only get a new vehicle, so that gently used Hybrid from last year won’t be an option. I wish that the CARS program more closely mirrored the Texas program by allowing cars up to 3 model years old to be purchased. That makes a lot more sense to me, but oh well, I’m not the President yet. :)
