Google is offering free calls to Haiti with its Google Voice service. It’s still an invitation only service, but they’ve been sending the invites out fairly quick.

Earthquake in Haiti.

January 13th, 2010 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

Please be careful of Haiti relief effort scams! Mere hours after news of the earthquake hit CNN, we started seeing scams popping up via email and hoaxes on Twitter. Unfortunately, it is very easy to hide an official looking “phish” type of page on Twitter because of the URL shortening tools like bit.ly and tinyurl.

Google has put together a good page on how you can help.

The Tweet going around about “text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts” is TRUE.

It is also TRUE that T-Mobile is waiving International charges on calls to/from Haiti.

The text message donation thing doesn’t work on ALL carriers, though. Here’s a list of supported carriers. It’s run by mgive.com.
