Updated Facebook iPhone app, but no iPad version.

June 19th, 2010 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Technology

Updated Facebook app for the iPhone is out, but no iPad version yet. That’s disappointing. I’ve had glitches every time I updated the Facebook app, so here’s what I’ve been doing:

* Delete existing Facebook app
* Power phone off and then back on again
* Install updated Facebook app from the App Store
* Enjoy!

The past few times I’ve left the phone on and just updated the app, I’ve run into some quirks. This has been the safest way so far. It might not occur in iOS 4, so we will see.

Microsoft Fix It – catch computer problems before they occur!

April 19th, 2010 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in Technology

It seems that Microsoft Fix It is a tool that’s designed to catch common computer problems before they turn into bigger issues. At least that’s what the marketing speak says. I have yet to try it since I don’t have Windows at home anymore but I plan on installing it on a test PC when I have a chance.

I’ve been very happy with Microsoft Security Essentials, so Fix It might be another good tool to have.

I deleted Opera.

I ended up deleting the iPhone version of Opera. At least to me, it wasn’t any faster than Safari but it rendered many pages poorly. Many were just unreadable. It was a good start and it’s nice to see Apple allowing other browsers but I didn’t have much luck with Opera.

iPhone version of Opera approved.

It’s official! “Opera today announced its popular mobile browser, Opera Mini has been approved for iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store. Opera Mini will be available as a free download within 24 hours, depending on market.”

This is good news for those of you that were looking for another browser on the iPhone besides Safari. This isn’t the first ‘other browser’ though. The veteran Mac app iCab has been on the iPhone for a while.

Twitter buys Tweetie.

April 10th, 2010 by stuffaboutlife | 1 Comment | Filed in Technology

Twitter announced today that it has purchased Tweetie, the highly rated Mac & iPhone Twitter application. They also hired the main developer behind the application, and Tweetie will become the official Twitter application.

Read more about it here. We talked about Nambu before but have recently been using Tweetie because it came with the recent MacHeist bundle. I have not used their iPhone app, however.
