Your mission, should you choose to accept it…

July 8th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Food

Ok, someone in the San Jose, California area… go to Tony Di Maggio’s, get a picture of the stromboli, and then tell me what is in it. I used to get them all the time and figured that’s just how strombolis were made. I can’t find anything like it here in Texas, but I did find a local pizza place that said they’d make a custom one for me if I gave them a list of ingredients.

Help me, Internet. I must have some stromboli love. The Di Maggio’s strombolis are absolutely delicious. The Yelp review says “cheese, ham, salami, sausage, mustard” but I have the feeling that there was more in the thing than that. I thought there was sausage. I used to work for a nearby ambulance company and my partner and I would go there quite often. More than once, we walked into an emergency room with a patient and didn’t realize that we were covered in marinara sauce. The strombolis were easy enough to eat on the run and could feed two people.

That’s one of the things that I miss about the Silicon Valley. That, and Clarke’s in Mountain View, CA. Best burgers ever.

If anybody has any recommendations for similar places in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, let me know!

Cash no longer accepted on President George Bush Turnpike

June 30th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Etcetera

The NTTA and the Star Telegram (among others) are reporting about the changes to the George Bush Turnpike. The toll booths are no longer accepting cash.

“Your cash is no longer good on the President George Bush Turnpike. The North Texas Tollway Authority is converting the toll road to all-electronic beginning at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.”

Read more about it here. The NTTA has a more detailed page about the change here.

Time to make sure the TollTag balance is ok. I’m not sure I like this too much. If you don’t have cash, they will simply send a bill to the vehicle’s registered owner. Now you have to tell anybody that borrows your car to stay off the &%$#@! George Bush Turnpike.
