Twitter announced today that it has purchased Tweetie, the highly rated Mac & iPhone Twitter application. They also hired the main developer behind the application, and Tweetie will become the official Twitter application.
Read more about it here. We talked about Nambu before but have recently been using Tweetie because it came with the recent MacHeist bundle. I have not used their iPhone app, however.
“tr.im is now in the process of discontinuing service, effective immediately.
Statistics can no longer be considered reliable, or reliably available going forward.
However, all tr.im links will continue to redirect, and will do so until at least December 31, 2009.”
That’s what the home page of URL shortening service tr.im says today. tr.im was mostly owned by the folks behind Nambu.
Services such as tr.im and bit.ly are used to shorten URLs to make them more twitter friendly.

“The distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks that knocked out Twitter for hours and affected other sites like Facebook, Google’s Blogger, and LiveJournal on Thursday continued all day Friday and may persist throughout the weekend.”

This is too bad. There are reports that the reasons behind it are politically motivated too. The PCWorld article tells a little more about it.
So, Facebook and Twitter and apparently LiveJournal are acting kind of strange and experiencing intermittent failures. Google owned Blogger seems to be ok.
Reports are that Twitter and Facebook have been suffering a DDoS attack, causing both sites to fail intermittently.
Twitter seems to be back up, but Facebook is still spewing out errors on occasion.
No, the entire internet is not down. It’s just a few well known websites experiencing this problem.
