Is “Cyber Monday” real?

November 27th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

No, it is not. It’s a marketing term coined by the National Retail Federation.

You are more likely to find better deals online as the holidays get closer and there’s a last minute drive to move inventory. “Cyber Monday” is not really a real thing. It’s also time that the word “cyber” was also sent into the halls of Internet History.

Whats up with eBay?

November 20th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Life

Over the past few years, eBay’s policies have changed quite a bit but they have changed in such a way that they are now almost hostile to sellers and helpful to scammers and thieves. I’m not too happy with them anymore but unfortunately Craigslist is no better.
This is going to make spring cleaning a little more interesting.

Fun with VMWare

I must admit that resizing VMWare partitions with gparted is not the most thrilling of activities, especially when it does not go as planned.

Merdeced-Benz = FAIL.

October 13th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Etcetera

Dear Mercedez-Benz,
There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR THIS. Look at this ridiculous Flash based ad. The stupid Flash car scrolled down the screen with me, actually BLOCKING the links that I was trying to click on! That is completely unacceptable. No web advertisement should EVER get in the way like that. Flash ads are a scourge on the Internet that I wish would just vanish. I don’t want “rollovers.” I don’t want “interstitials.” I don’t want noisy Flash ads with a car driving across my web page. Ads tha shove themselves in the user’s face like that do way more harm than good. I wasn’t going to buy a Mercedes before, but now the company name is associated with “annoying” to me. Is that good advertising? Absolutely not.

Mercedes = fail.

Here’s their stupid ad:

Facebook & Twitter still suffering from DDoS attacks.

August 8th, 2009 by stuffaboutlife | Comments Off | Filed in Technology

“The distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks that knocked out Twitter for hours and affected other sites like Facebook, Google’s Blogger, and LiveJournal on Thursday continued all day Friday and may persist throughout the weekend.”

PCWorld reports.

This is too bad. There are reports that the reasons behind it are politically motivated too. The PCWorld article tells a little more about it.

So, Facebook and Twitter and apparently LiveJournal are acting kind of strange and experiencing intermittent failures. Google owned Blogger seems to be ok.
